Prepare the right measurement record and customs information before selecting a FedEx service.
Use guidance for the correct market
FedEx publishes market-specific shipping advice. A US example in inches is not automatically a UK rule in centimetres. Start with the UK service and shipment details, then check current weight, dimension and restricted-contents requirements for that product.
This distinction matters when copying a packing procedure from another business. A box, service or account that works on one lane does not establish acceptance on another.
Dimensional weight is about space
FedEx’s UK dimensional-weight guide explains the relationship between parcel size and shipping assessment. Record all three outside dimensions, not just the longest edge, and compare the relevant dimensional calculation with packed actual weight.
Use a configurable divisor when preparing scenarios. The calculator here deliberately makes the divisor visible: it does not silently label one value “the FedEx rule” or assume every route has the same rounding policy.
Volumetric weight calculator
Use the outside dimensions of the sealed parcel. These results explain measurements; they do not confirm carrier eligibility or a shipping price.
The default 5,000 divisor is an example, not a universal carrier rule. Change it to the value specified by your service. Check the actual product’s rounding, restrictions and measurement method.
Pack to protect the item and the network
Choose an outer container suited to the contents and handling conditions. Separate fragile components, immobilise movement and make sure the label remains flat and readable. Keep liquids or special-care contents out of an ordinary parcel until their acceptance has been confirmed.
For a multi-piece consignment, make a piece-level list. Each parcel needs its own measurement record and the correct label. Do not reuse one tracking label on several cartons.
Prepare for border questions
Itemise the goods, quantities, values and countries of origin, and confirm the documentation requested by the selected service. A recipient may be asked for further import information. Share a realistic expectation that customs clearance and recipient action can affect progress.
Use official FedEx tracking and the seller or shipping provider’s support channel for existing shipments. SelectaParcel does not currently purchase FedEx labels or retrieve live tracking.
Questions worth clearing up
Can I use a US dimensional formula with centimetres?
Do not mix units or markets. The FedEx US material includes an inches-based example, while this site’s tool expects centimetres and a divisor expressed for that unit system. Start from the applicable UK service guidance and keep the units explicit.
Can I reuse one label for a multi-box order?
Do not attach the same piece label to several cartons. Record the contents and measurements of each piece and follow the provider’s multi-piece instructions. Keep the relationship between the order, shipment and individual cartons clear.
What does the calculator confirm about a FedEx service?
It confirms arithmetic for the inputs shown, not product availability, acceptance or price. Route, contents, account conditions, rounding and handling rules still need to be checked with the actual service provider.
